SUPPORT FOR IMPOVERISHED WOMEN BY GOSON
"Girls and women routinely bear burdens and atrocity on them, This reflects their unequal status. Promoting income-generating activities of women is the only best solution for this marginalisation problem".
Tiruvannamalai district lies in rain shadowed area and so repeatedly affected by severe droughts. The literacy rate is just 48% and the same is far below among the women and girl children. The infrastructure facilities on health, industries, education, training, communication, art and culture, banking cum credit facilities, etc.,. are not adequate and needs to be improved in conformity with the growth of population.
Agriculture is the main occupation and has no proper irrigational facilities. The weather is mostly dry and hot through out the year. Poverty is one of the problems which affect the entire population of the district, one way or the other. Most of the women in the villages are agro dependent, vulnerable and badly restricted and suppressed by socio economic and cultural factors. Several initiatives have been taken by GOSONngo to change their situation. Girl child education is being emphasized. Two hundred Women self help groups have been formed and successfully functioning in deferent villages. Micro credit and saving system, Revolving funding, Vocational training, training on Entrepreneurship, marketing, creation of kitchen gardens, consumption of natural gas, family planning and education on native medicine are some of the significant programs implemented so far in ninety four villages of Thurinjapuram and Thandrampat Blocks. Many thousands of women and girl children are getting befit of the above programs.
RURAL WOMEN DAIRY PROJECT
Provision of one cow to each W.S.H.G member under organized cooperative system would improve their family and community to a greater level.

This self employment income generation program is aimed to improve the earnings of two hundred and twenty eight economically backward women's families (four thousand people - both direct and indirect) belonging to seventeen Women Self Help Groups of Devanampattu village, towards their sustainable development by providing milk producing cow to each member. This program would bring an immediate remedial solution to their financial problem.
This program is expected to benefit the targeted population immediately with effect from the second month of the commencement of the project. This project will be gradually expanded to a great level to produce milk allied items, since there is a great demand for these items and being an highly profitable enterprise.
UNORGANISED GIRLS AND WOMEN SECTOR
There is no security for the lives of the unorganized women sector. They are forced to work under odd and unsafe working places.
For young girls and Women coolies who work in unorganized sectors under hazardous conditions like building constructions, bricklins, agriculture fields, small cottage industries, truck loading and unloading, road side micro business, house and stall maids and etc have no security at their work spots. GOSONngo provides identity cards through a committed social worker with photos to the above category, by which they can get life security fund, daughter's marriage allowance, delivery(child birth) allowance etc.,.from the Ministry of Lobour. Presently there are about three thousand members are availing benefit of this project.
